Helen Lynette Hawkins Williams, 83, of Roanoke Rapids, died Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Williams, a native of Halifax County, was the daughter of the late Thomas Benjamin Hawkins and Lillie Carpenter Hawkins. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Marvin Hawkins. Mrs. Williams was a member of Park Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard Morris "Red" Williams; a brother, Dr. Cleveland M. Hawkins and his wife, Doris, of Sunbury, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends Saturday, June 6, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Julian Mills officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
